North Beach Retail Fitout — Tauranga Crossing, Tauriko
A shopfront and counter fitout for North Beach at Tauranga Crossing — Cedar and Douglas Fir battens carrying the brand's wave mark in black steel and light.

A retail fitout for North Beach inside the skylit atrium at Tauranga Crossing. The shopfront reads as one long timber rhythm — warm Cedar and Douglas Fir battens run as fascia fins, slat blade walls and vertical screen surrounds — with the brand’s illuminated channel-letter sign riding the batten fascia and greenery framing both edges of the entry portal.
The battens do more than dress the opening. The same rhythm carries out into the mall as a balustrade band, so the store reads from across the atrium before the sign does. Black powder-coated steel does the holding — lightbox signage in black with the white wave mark, junctions against the Douglas Fir fins left legible rather than hidden. Inside, the safety-yellow structural braces stay exposed. It is a fitout that shows its working.
At the counter the palette shifts to Birch plywood. The cash desk carries angled charcoal-grey laminate panels, with ply display trays running the counter’s length behind acrylic fronts. On the shop floor, a digital screen sits recessed flush into a vertical Cedar slat blade — the batten spacing runs straight past it, uninterrupted. Close up, it is the spacing that convinces: even gaps, clean grain, black steel meeting timber without fuss.
The mall gives the work two lights. Cool white falls from the skylit atrium across the storefront and the tiled concourse; the close-range signage frames go warm amber. Underfoot, pale Oak-look flooring hands over to royal-blue carpet and forest-green circular rugs, with olive-lime columns between — saturated retail colour that the timber steadies. The battens hold the warm register of the whole store: a surf brand’s wave, held in timber rhythm, in the middle of a shopping centre.
