Oak & Veined Stone Kitchen — Kotuku Place, Matua

Matte white cabinetry and warm Oak under a thick, grey-veined stone benchtop — a Matua kitchen that lets the garden supply the colour.

White and Oak kitchen elevation with veined stone island and splashback

A kitchen in Matua, set out in three materials that do most of the talking: matte white flat-panel cabinetry, warm natural Oak, and a grey-veined super-white stone carried as a thick island benchtop and a full-height splashback. Front-on, with the linear pendant and under-cabinet lighting running, the elevation is calm and near symmetrical — an Oak tower to one side, the stone field at the centre, white drawers below.

The pantry is a quiet move. Its bi-fold doors are handle-less Oak — closed, they read as a plain run of timber flanking the fridge; open, they reveal styled shelving. The same Oak carries across the tall units, so the working wall sits as one warm band against the white. Black-framed glazing holds the garden — the one saturated colour the palette lets in.

Up close, the joinery keeps to its own rules. The white drawer fronts take folded edge pulls in the same white — a fine metal lip under the stone overhang rather than a handle on the face. A spice drawer slides out with bamboo-lidded jars ranked under a fluted bowl. At the sink, a brushed stainless tap stands against the black window frame, the garden going soft behind it. The same brushed stainless carries to the fridge.

The room itself runs chalk white and pale Oak — pale European Oak planks underfoot, white walls washed in warm daylight. The black is measured: a linear pendant, Tolix stools, the window joinery. Over the Oak dining table, exposed beams and an olive pendant carry the ceiling. Through the glass, the garden leans in green — about the only decoration the room asks for.
