Dark Oak & Aged Brass Kitchen — River Oaks Drive, Tauriko
Charcoal blue-black Oak under a cream vaulted ceiling — ivory quartz, gunmetal herringbone tile, and a bar dresser that glows amber through seeded glass.

Most of this kitchen is one decision, held all the way through: Oak stained a charcoal blue-black, wire-brushed so the grain stays legible under the colour. It runs the full cabinetry wall and the island beneath a cream vaulted ceiling, a chandelier overhead, warm cabinet lighting building the evening register. The foreground stays clear — the room reads as joinery first.
The bar dresser is the set piece. Its upper doors are glazed in textured seeded glass and lit from inside, so the cabinet glows amber against the dark Oak — crystal glassware on glass shelves behind, the seed in the glass turning everything past it soft. Below, a white benchtop and gunmetal-grey herringbone tile hold the wall to the same quiet geometry.
Up close, the hardware sets the tone. Knurled aged-brass bar pulls sit against the blue-black doors — machined texture on aged metal, the kind of detail you find with your fingers before your eyes. The handmade-look herringbone tile meets the ivory-white quartz benchtop in a clean line, and a floating Oak shelf carries cookbooks above a stainless-trimmed benchtop edge. Three materials, one junction, no fuss.
The light does the rest. By day it is cool and bright — a skylight overhead, morning sun raking across the sink corner and throwing dappled plant shadow onto a dark Oak end panel. By evening it flips: warm tungsten under-cabinet and in-cabinet glow, the seeded glass doing its slow amber work. Pale greige tile underfoot, soft warm-grey walls, polished mahogany antiques and fresh greenery filling in the edges. A dark kitchen that never reads heavy — the glass, the brass and the light keep it moving.
