Sage & Smoked Timber Kitchen — Lund Road, Aongatete
Matt Sage cabinetry around a curved smoked-timber island, warm-white quartz and aged brass catching the late sun — a kitchen that opens straight onto the deck.

Lund Road is a kitchen in matt Sage — flat-panel cabinetry in a grey-green that shifts with the light, wrapped around a curved island stained a smoked Walnut brown. The island carries a warm-white quartz top with a soft oval profile, three brass pendants hung above it and honey-toned timber stools pulled up to the stone. From the deck, the whole room reads as one move: a black-clad gable, bifolds folded right back, the kitchen open to the outside.
The curve is the piece of joinery everything else answers to. Veneer follows the island’s radius, and a bar door is built into the sweep itself — its edge meeting the stone on a concealed hinge, so the curve, the edge profile and the hardware all resolve in one junction. Along the working run, dark-stained uppers sit over a glossy white finger-tile splashback, with the freestanding range and a pendant pair holding the centre of the elevation. In the corner, open dark-timber shelves carry a trailing plant against the luminous tile.
The hardware keeps one language throughout: aged brushed brass. Long D pulls sit paired on the Sage tall doors, curved lip pulls on the drawer stacks, a brass mixer at the sink, brass fittings on the pendants. Up close, the drawer stack shows what the finish is doing — visible grain through the dark stain, crisp shadow-line gaps between the fronts, the brass lips catching whatever light is going.
And the light does move. At golden hour the sun rakes in low and the Sage warms toward olive; in flat daylight it settles back to a cooler grey-green. The warm-white quartz, pale blonde Oak underfoot and white tile hold the middle of the palette steady while the cabinetry colour drifts with the hour. Outside, black-stained vertical boards wrap the gable — a dark shell around a soft-coloured room, open to the deck whenever the bifolds fold away.
