Walnut & Travertine Kitchen — Westview Place, Tauriko
Dark Walnut veneer under warm-cream Travertine, brushed brass, and an arched full-height display cabinet in fluted glass. A residential kitchen on Westview Place, photographed in soft daylight and a low amber under-cabinet glow.

On Westview Place, the kitchen runs dark. Chocolate-toned Walnut veneer carries the cabinetry, and unfilled warm-cream Travertine sits on top of it — benchtops finished with a rounded bullnose and carried to the floor in waterfall ends. Beyond the island, a dining zone: black wishbone stools, a black Oak table, a pale European Oak floor holding the whole room together.
The signature move stands at the edge of the kitchen — a full-height display cabinet with arched fluted-glass doors. In the photographs, it anchors the right of the room, the kitchen receding behind it, brass handles set against the dark grain. The other quiet decision is the stone itself. The Travertine has been left unfilled, so its natural pitting stays visible in the surface, and every edge is softened into a bullnose rather than cut square. Behind the benchtop, a splashback of pale bone kit-kat tile runs fluted and fine under a warm line of light.
Up close, the joinery does what it should. At the island end, book-matched Walnut grain runs across the drawer fronts, met by rounded brushed-brass pulls and the bullnose edge of the Travertine waterfall — timber, stone and hardware in one junction. Inside the display cabinet the evidence is quieter still: a concealed hinge, the edge of the fluted glass, a glass shelf against dark grain. At extreme close range the Travertine reads as landscape — pitted, its profile rounded rather than sharp.
The room the work makes is warm and even. Daylight comes filtered through white venetians, and garden light spills in from the left of the wide frame. Under the wall cabinets, a low amber glow picks out the flutes of the tile. A sculptural brass pendant hangs in the upper frame of the straight-on elevation. Warm-white walls, dark timber, cream stone, black accents — a kitchen that holds the evening as comfortably as the morning.
